Chocolate Mint is one of the specialty mints in our plant collection. We grow named mints because the differences in aroma, flavor and growth habit make them worth keeping as individual varieties rather than lumping everything together as simply “mint.”

Planting & Care

Plant where the roots can drain freely and where you can keep an eye on moisture while the plant establishes. Container-grown herbs can dry faster than plants in the ground, so check the soil rather than watering on a fixed schedule.

About This Variety

Mentha x piperita '' Chocolate Mint is another great peppermint, but with distinct chocolate overtones. Chocolate mint is an old time favorite culinary and beverage mint. Try some leaves infused in coffee, hot chocolate, or tea.

Chocolate mint doesn't smell or taste like chocolate, but rather it is a reminder of a Chocolate dinner mint. The suggestion of Chocolate is there and is strong enough to make us fall in love with it. Small dark green leaves have a strong peppermint patty like scent and flavor.

This mint plant tends to spread quickly and creep along the ground instead of growing upward like other mints. Easy to grow perennial in zones 4-9. Botanical Name: Mentha x piperita 'Choco Zone: 4-11 Soil: Most any soil.

Exposure: Full Sun Bloom Time and Color: Violet or lavender blooms in late spring to mid summer.
