Animal Welfare & Husbandry Standards

Good breeding begins with good husbandry. We expect animals used in our programs to receive routine care appropriate to their species, age, weather, housing, and purpose.

Daily Care

Our work includes regular observation, access to feed and water, sanitation, appropriate housing, weather protection, and attention to changes in behavior or condition that may indicate a problem.

Housing for the Animal, Not the Photograph

Housing is selected and adjusted for practical animal management. Brooders, breeding pens, quail housing, grow-out areas, and other setups may look different because each serves a different purpose.

Breeder Condition Matters

Animals in poor condition should not be expected to perform well as breeders. Nutrition, body condition, age, stress, environment, parasite control, and general health can all affect fertility and production.

Humane Decision-Making

Responsible animal care sometimes requires separating animals, changing housing, retiring a breeder, treating an injury, or making other difficult management decisions. Our goal is to make those decisions based on the welfare of the animal and the needs of the flock.
