Some poultry lines are valuable because they represent generations of history, selection, and genetic diversity that can be difficult or impossible to recreate once lost. Our interest in heritage and rare poultry is rooted in preserving useful genetics while continuing to learn from them.

Preservation Is More Than Keeping a Few Birds

A sustainable breeding population needs planning. Breeders must be selected carefully, relatedness must be considered, enough offspring must be raised to make meaningful choices, and replacement breeders must be developed before older animals are lost.

Rare Does Not Mean Finished

Keeping a rare line alive does not mean ignoring quality. Preservation and improvement can work together when changes are made carefully and the defining traits and genetic identity of the line remain central to the program.

Why We May Retain Birds Instead of Selling Them

A bird that fills an important genetic role may be worth more to the future of the flock than its immediate sale value. For that reason, some birds, eggs, or young stock may not be offered even when there is demand.
